publications
My earlier publications relate mostly to my PhD research, which was about the economic and organisational impact of IS offshoring on large IT companies. At the time I was working on a number of sizeable development projects which used combined offshore and onshore teams, so I had a first-hand view of some of the issues that such development faced. My research spanned the disciplines of IS and International Business, so my early publications consider topics that relate to both areas.
I’ve published a number of one-off papers on topics that interested me, again usually because I have had access to good research data. My paper on electronic medical records (EMR) came about as a result of my work with Tom Poulter, who was leading a project to deploy the Kainos Evolve EMR software at Clatterbridge Oncology Centre.
A paper on the history of IT came about because I have always been interested in history, and I believe the history of IT in the enterprise is not widely researched. For that paper I was very lucky to get advice from Frank Land, one of the LEO team members.
My current research interests focus on the law and IT. I'm particularly interested in how the law will accommodate emerging technology, and how regulatory frameworks will adapt to deal with the challenges posed by the modern digital world. There is much to study, and I hope to contribute to legal scholarship in this field.
